Join us for a discussion about African American Herbalism: A Practical Guide to Healing Plants and Folk Traditions by Lucretia VanDyke! This beautiful book weaves together history, personal stories, traditional herbal practices, and practical recipes. VanDyke honors the deep legacy of African American healers, rootworkers, and herbalists, showing how these traditions were carried through slavery, emancipation, and into modern times. She also gives lots of guidance on different herbs, remedies, and rituals, blending the spiritual and physical aspects of healing written in an accessible, heart-centered way.
For this special June event, you’re invited to bring and share the healing foods and remedies she talks about to honor the community, tradition, and hands-on connection of the book. The Ritual Room
Creating Meditation Beads
Prayer beads have been used for thousands of years as tools for meditation, reflection, prayer, and intention-setting. Different cultures and faiths—from African spiritual traditions to Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism—have each developed their own forms of prayer beads, using them to help guide repetitive prayers, mantras, or affirmations.
In African and diasporic traditions, beads themselves have long held sacred meaning, representing protection, connection to ancestors, rites of passage, and spiritual power. Whether worn, carried, or used in ritual, beads tell stories of identity, resilience, and devotion.
This month, we’re honoring that history by creating our own prayer beads (not tied to any one tradition) guided by the spirit of connection, intention, and care. Each bead you choose can represent a hope, a prayer, an affirmation, or a blessing for yourself or your community.
This is a chance to create something sacred with your hands, your heart, and your spirit.

Healing Artistic Trauma: Weekend Intensive Workshop
Healing Artistic Trauma
A 2-day immersive experience
Begin Your Artistic Healing Journey
Do you long to reconnect with your creative spirit but feel held back by self-doubt, fear, or past experiences? Healing Artistic Trauma is a two-day immersive workshop designed to guide you through recognizing, processing, and rebuilding your relationship with creativity.
Led by trauma-informed facilitators, this experience offers a safe, nurturing space to explore your artistic journey and take meaningful steps toward healing.
Day 1: Recognition & Processing
On Day 1, we open the door to your artistic healing by acknowledging and processing the experiences that have shaped your creative path.
Through a guided visualization and timeline exercise, you’ll map your artistic journey, identifying key moments that have impacted your relationship with creativity.
Morning Highlights:
Mapping Your Artistic Journey: Explore your creative history and pivotal moments.
Understanding Your Blocks: Assess and uncover how creative blocks impact your daily life.
The afternoon focuses on emotional regulation and expression. You’ll craft a personalized Emotional First Aid Kit with grounding tools and practice gentle art techniques to soothe the nervous system.
In the Protected Expression exercise, you’ll use creative therapy techniques to symbolically represent feelings, unlocking a safe channel for emotional release and understanding.
Afternoon Highlights:
Emotional First Aid Kit: Build practical tools for emotional grounding.
Protected Expression: Engage in trauma-informed art therapy to explore emotions.
The day concludes with journal reflections, group breathing exercises, and setting intentions for the next step in your journey.
Day 2: Rebuilding & Moving Forward
Day 2 centers on rediscovery, confidence-building, and creating a sustainable plan to nurture your artistic identity. Reconnect with your creative self through exercises that explore your values, passions, and definitions of success. A “What Lights Me Up” collage will help you visualize what inspires you, while a gentle reintroduction to your chosen medium encourages a focus on process, not product.
Morning Highlights:
Identity Exploration: Clarify your values and redefine success on your terms.
Skill Reconnection: Rediscover your creative tools in a mindful, judgment-free space.
In the afternoon, we shift focus toward building confidence and envisioning a sustainable creative practice. Together, we’ll create weekly rituals, identify support systems, and develop strategies to protect your creative boundaries.
Afternoon Highlights:
Building Confidence: Share skills and celebrate progress in community.
Sustainable Practice Planning: Craft actionable steps to support ongoing growth.
We close with a reflective group discussion, anchoring the experience with a sense of connection and direction. Resources for continued support and information about our 12-week follow-up program will also be shared.
Your Healing Starts Here

Whether you’re beginning your artistic healing journey or seeking to deepen your self-discovery, this experience will equip you with tools, insights, and community for lasting growth.
